The Characters of "Key West"

Click on a face for that actor's/character's info, then click on each actor's name to link to more bio info!

Lara Piper as "Rikki" - Just as angelic as Seamus' first impression of her, Rikki is an exotic dancer at Gumbo's. Possessed of both purity and sensuality, she balances her downhome Southern upbringing with a slightly tart whimsey and a bit of pixie-ish "earth-mother" wholesomeness. Lara seems to have disappeared from the acting world, although she is following her bliss in another artistic endeavor: Sculpting! Nice work, Lara... but we still miss you!

Leland Crooke as "Gumbo" - Cajun background, business sensibilties, and a pet alligator, Gumbo is the proprietor of "Gumbo's Bar and End-of the World Cafe". Here you can have your favorite libation, some homemade soup, and perhaps a bit of philosophy thrown in for good measure. Leland, an accomplished stage actor, puts the "real" in real good! Watch for him these days to show up in anything from Star Trek's new "Enterprise" series to "Jag" to "E.R.", but watch and listen closely. He never looks or sounds the same way twice!

Denise Crosby as "Chaucey" - Key West's Lady Mayor ... OK, she plays it a bit differently than Key West's real "First Lady in Perpetuity", Wilhelmina Harvey, but hey, this is fiction, right? Chaucey pulled no punches to get into office, and made us all a bit leery of where her character might go, but seemed to redeem herself as a True Conch once she was in. Denise's ability to play a strong woman was well cast here. She remains active in television, popping up frequently.

Geno Silva as "Hector Allegria" - Businessman/developer who pulled himself up from having nothing, Hector uses his Cuban roots to give himself the strength of perseverence to reach his goals. At times a force to be reckoned with amongst the more tender-hearted of the island, Mr. Allegria is not without his own crosses to bear. Geno's acting credentials are long, going back to the mid-'70's.  He remains active in films, and made a recent appearance on "The Agency".

Jennifer Tilly as "Savannah" - Makes her living in the "oldest profession", and does quite well at it, but Savannah could do quite well at any profession she chooses. Along with providing "aid and comfort" to the rich and famous, she also imparts occasional words of wisdom. All that and a heart of gold... who could ask for more? An Academy Award nominee, Ms. Tilly may be part workaholic, judging from the sheer volume of films in which she appears. Always she puts her stamp on what she does!

Brian Thompson as "Sheriff Cody" - Existential and in touch with his spiritual side, this Sheriff ensures that the peace is kept, but does it mostly with words and intuition. Brian, whose imposing physique is the perfect counterpoint to the Sheriff's enlightened approach to law enforcement, brought life, light and heart to what could easily have been a problematic role. While Brian remained a citizen of Key West for some time after the show ceased production, you'll find a fairly long list of of credits, including a recurring role in the popular "X-Files".

Ivory Ocean as "King Cole" - Portraying a kind of "tough love" father figure as a blind newspaper editor (only in Key West!) in this series, word on the street is that in real life, Ivory Ocean is "the sweetest man!"... or so say some of the Conchs I spoke with during a recent visit to the island. Although he pops up from time to time in a variety of roles, the world has not seen nearly enough of this fine actor.

T.C. Carson as "Jo-Jo" - Bahamian Rastafarian JoJo brought some third world charm along with several other "charms" when his coconut raft landed him on Key West. Already tuned in to his new surroundings when the series begins, he is the first friend Seamus makes there, and knowing someone who has the island "wired" helps... usually! Key West was my introduction to T.C., who later spent several seasons with "Living Single", although sans dreadlocks and islander accent. Shows what I know - I thought both were real!  Nice work in the feature film "U571".

Fisher Stevens as "Seamus O'Neill" - Our "hero"! Filled with raw talent and a writer's passion, Seamus gives us a bit of what we all need - Drive and purpose. Already surrounded by a terrific cast, Fisher as Seamus is the tie that binds this ensemble into a package as warm as the Key West sun! Fisher's long stint with "Early Edition" made him a staple for millions of TV viewers, although his word-whacking Hindu-Engineer's role in both of the "Short Circuit" movies, not to mention voice-overs, guest shots and directing have given him an impressive portfolio.

Michael Covert as "Hunter Farmer" - A good fishing guide, and although a man of few, he does indeed have "a way with words". Hunter is the kind of guy that everyone wants for a friend... easy going and adventurous, but sane, open, non-judgemental, and always ready to help. Look for Michael Covert III in the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) . Check him out under the direction of David Beaird in 1992's "Scorchers", and 2001's "Dirt". Both films feature Jennifer Tilly and Leland Crooke!

Kim Myers as "Dr. Reilly Clark" - Beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated... and not one to mess with, no matter how important you think you are! Spends her time with dolphins because they're sweeter and more faithful than bipeds... and because that's where she got her PhD! Kim appears to be playing herself in this role, or maybe that's just how all good actors seem, but for a nice contrast, look for her performance in Nightmare On Elm Street... It's a scream!

Maria Canals as "Fig" - The right hand and eyes (on the rare occasion that he needs them) for King Cole, Fig's investigative reporting helps keep the island in shape.  Active in both television and stage, Maria's work has garnered her both Ovation and  Alma Awards.  (pic)

Jennifer Barlow as "Flame" - Named, no doubt, for her firey red hair, she's also one of the hottest dancers at Gumbo's Bar. Has a little trouble keeping her clothes on but that's just because her spirit flies so freely! Jennifer has other acting credits in her portfolio, but my favorite remains the dancing Flame!  (pic)
