By the time the TV show "Key West" makes it on the air, folks in the cold North will be dying to see the scenes filmed in these mild climates.

Originally set to hit tiny screens around the country later his month, the Fox Television show will not premiere until late December or early January, said a spokesperson for Viacom Entertainment, which is producing the show.

"Fox has no specific air date," the spokesman said. "They wanted to have enough time to promote it".

The decision to push the start date back was made three weeks ago, according to Viacom.

In the meantime, the publicity blitz that would normally accompany the start of the fall TV season and a new show has been put on hold. Many of the early reviews of the show's pilot compared "Key West" to a warmer "Northern Exposure" mixed with a creepy "Twin Peaks." Many of those reviews were unfavorable.

"Key West" is based on the adventures of a fellow who wins the lottery in New Jersey and then comes here to make it as a writer. He, of course, meets all sorts of offbeat Key West types in the process.

The show was set to go up against ABC's hit "Roseanne" as well as "Coach", NBC's "Reasonable Doubts" and a movie on CBS.

In the meantime, the show will go on, including the usual traffic tie-ups on the island. Because of filming today, the closed streets will be Front between Fitzpatrick and Whitehead from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Whitehead from Front to Green from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday and Thursday, Whitehead Street between Truman Ave and Virginia Street will have intermittent traffic interruptions.
